Skye Studio Build 2024
In 2022 I was on the cusp of turning 50, my son had turned 18 and left school, and my long-term relationship ended. I was free to make choices based on my own desires. I found myself facing one of those rare opportunities when you can choose to completely change the direction of your life.
I chose to sell everything I owned and move to the remote Isle of Skye in the Hebrides. This would have been a significant decision on its own, but to add to the intensity of the move, I decided to build myself a home with my own hands… and, as it turned out, with the helping hands of many others.
Two years on, I live in a caravan on a tenanted croft – a small farm – and am nearing completion of my straw bale house. The process has been deeply nourishing for my soul. The hard, physical work, the beauty of the landscape, and the creative process of designing and building an eco-friendly house, all whilst working alongside other people eager to learn how to build with their own hands too.
Most of the house is now built and I am focussing on the next chapter: converting the roof space into a studio to house my archive and create new work.
To celebrate this next chapter, I am releasing a special series of three rarely seen, affordable prints from the archive: “Czech Runway, 2000”, “Anarchy Sky, 2000”, and “Pink Girl and Riot Cops, 2002”.
